How Mythology And History Have Lured Him?
Is Director Gunasekhar a self-contradictory personality? Some may have such doubts over Gunasekhar. But, for sure he is not self –contradictory. He wants to show some thing different to that of others do in their films. Gunasekhar’s speciality is that he choses subjects, one after another, and he never run for story ideas. In fact, he generates some times and often, he takes que from mythology and history, in case it is not off-beat. That’s how he is a special director. ‘Sogasu Chooda Tarama’ was his debut film which went against the popular trend, of course on the lines of ‘Indecent proposal’. When every director was bent on making ‘masala’ films in order to grab instant fame and make a fast buck, Gunasekhar stuck to aesthetic values and cling to classicism. He himself wrote the script for ‘Sogasu Chooda Tarama’ by filling every scene with decency in spite of the fact that the story of the film somewhat resembled the English film ‘Indecent Proposal.’ He orchestrated his narration with precision along with a tremendous impact.
His second project was ‘Bala Ramayanam’. Again an experiment, in which he underwent a lot of problems to complete the film, troubled as he was due to the incessant harassment inflicted by the producer MS Reddy. He faced all the obstacles in day to day affairs of shooting and cleared them. Had it been somebody else, he could have happily suspended the project and fled. But Gunasekhar stood like a rock and finished the project for which he earned encomiums.
Gunasekhar’s professional front was never easy. To distinguish himself from the rest of his ilk, Gunasekhar took up critical projects. Even when he made a film with Chiranjeevi, he was shrewd enough to stick to an entirely offbeat story line. That was ‘Choodalani Vundi.’ Vindicating all the hazards during shooting, Gunasekhar proved triumphant. The film was a super hit .
One will not believe the amount of trouble that Gunasekhar was faced with while traversing the path to deliver a hit with Maheshbabu. That was ‘Okkadu’ which was the highest grosser for Mahesh Babu. Later, of course, Mahesh swallowed several such hits. But that was first in the row. It sounds redundant to talk about Arjun with Mahesh Babu as far as the struggle of Gunasekhar, for encapsulating all the commercial elements into such a wholesome family drama, is concerned.
Now it is the turn of Rani Rudrama, a huge and opulent project. It will be recorded on the sands of time as the film with a highest budget for a heroine oriented film. With tremendous passion for the calibre that a woman ruler demonstrated to pulverize the vendetta and vindictive rivalry from the chauvinistic male society, Gunasekhar strived beyond his limits to make the screen version of a true catalogue of truths from history. He chose to tour a few countries to study the advancement of technology needed for his forthcoming project. Initially, everybody was skeptical about Gunasekhar’s determination. He stunned the industry and proceeded with the project.
Finally, Gunasekhar declared a final date of release on October 9. While releasing a video on YouTube submitting, Gunasekhar has apologised to people for the delay in the release of the film. However, Gunasekhar has proved himself again, though it is not required, by showing his might diretorial skills. Now, audience are eagerly waiting for his ‘Rudrama’.
